The challenge
Public filings contain a wealth of information about investment advisers: their businesses, funds, assets, people and service providers. Turning that information into a useful market view takes work. Records need to be connected, firms compared on a consistent basis, and changes understood in context.
A research team needs to move between the big picture and the individual firm. Which managers belong in a particular peer group? How do they differ? Which deserve a closer look? Answering those questions should not require rebuilding the analysis each time the criteria change.
Our work
We developed Adviser Atlas, Plexi’s own market-intelligence product, around that research process. The work brought SEC Form ADV and Form D information together in a common data foundation and built the application that makes it accessible to a business user.
Users can explore the adviser market, define groups by criteria such as strategy, assets and geography, and compare the firms within them. They can then move into an individual profile to examine its funds, business relationships and filing history. Saved groups and adjustable ranking criteria let teams organize research around their own priorities.
The information remains connected to its context. Filing dates, coverage and gaps are visible, so users can distinguish what the records establish from what still needs investigation.
The result
Atlas brings market exploration, screening and firm-level research into one working product. A team can move from a broad question to a focused group and then to a detailed assessment, carrying its selection criteria through the process.
The project demonstrates the full path from a data resource to a usable analytical application. The data foundation, business logic and interface were developed together around the decisions the product needed to support. That is the same approach we bring to bespoke research and operating tools for investment firms.
